LAHORE: Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi credited teamwork and a strong bowling performance for his side’s victory, saying the win was the result of a collective effort from the entire squad.

Speaking to the media after the match, Afridi praised both the batting and bowling units, noting that the batters performed well in challenging conditions while the bowlers played a key role in securing the result.

“The victory is the outcome of teamwork, and the bowlers delivered an excellent performance,” Afridi said, adding that he always aims to contribute through his own performances and help the team win matches.

Focus remains on future challenges

The Pakistan captain said the team has sufficient time to prepare for the 2027 Cricket World Cup and remains focused on improving across formats. He added that Pakistan’s immediate objective was to win the ongoing series.

Afridi also noted that home teams often prepare pitches suited to their strengths, describing it as a common aspect of international cricket.

Shadab Khan’s return to form a major positive

Afridi highlighted the return to form of Shadab Khan as one of the key positives of the series. He said experienced players like Shadab can make a decisive difference in pressure situations.

He also praised Arafat Minhas and Abdul Samad for their performances, saying both players made valuable contributions when given opportunities.

Selection based on conditions

Discussing team selection, Afridi said no player is guaranteed a place in the playing XI and that selections are made according to match conditions and team requirements.

He also acknowledged the contributions of senior players, mentioning Babar Azam for his innings in Rawalpindi and recalling the support he received from Sarfaraz Ahmed during the early stages of his international career.

Afridi said every player’s primary responsibility is to perform for the team and contribute to Pakistan’s success.
