Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has said there is nothing wrong with leaving a senior player out of the playing XI if the decision is in the best interest of the team.
Speaking at a press conference in London ahead of the second Test against England, Babar said every player has an important role, but selection decisions can also be made to give certain players confidence and opportunities.
He said Pakistan have been working to address a recurring batting problem in which wickets fall quickly after a strong partnership. According to Babar, this can happen when a new batter arrives at the crease and the established batter is dismissed soon afterwards.
Babar Confirms Fitness for Lord’s Test
Babar said the pitch at Lord’s had visible grass and that the final playing XI would be decided later. He also said there was no pressure on wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan.
The Pakistan captain stressed that responsibility rests with the entire playing XI and cannot be placed solely on the bowlers or batters.
“It cannot be that the bowlers take 20 wickets and the batters do nothing,” Babar said, highlighting the need for contributions from all departments.
Babar also confirmed that he is fully fit and will feature in the Lord’s Test. He said Pakistan would aim to complete a hat-trick of Test victories at the venue.
The second Test between Pakistan and England is being played at Lord’s from August 27 to 31.
