Pakistan defeated South Africa in a penalty shootout to finish 11th at the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 after their placement match ended level in regulation time.
The 11th-place playoff was played at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in the Netherlands, where neither side could break the deadlock during the scheduled 60 minutes. The winner was ultimately decided through a penalty shootout, with Pakistan holding their nerve to claim victory.
Pakistan Move Up in World Ranking
The result also brought an improvement in Pakistan’s position in the FIH world rankings. The national team entered the tournament ranked 12th in the world and moved up one place to 11th following the victory over South Africa.
Pakistan’s final position came after a campaign that saw the team compete for places outside the tournament’s medal rounds.
The victory over South Africa secured Pakistan’s 11th-place finish and gave the national side a positive result to close its World Cup campaign.
