PHNOM PENH: Senate Chairman and Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani led a Pakistani delegation in a courtesy call on Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in Phnom Penh on Saturday, where he thanked the monarch for Cambodia’s hospitality and successful hosting of the 2nd ISC.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the conference, which brought together parliamentary leaders from different countries around the themes of dialogue, peace and international cooperation. Gilani said the gathering reflected growing trust and a shared commitment to strengthening parliamentary engagement.
Gilani highlights role of parliaments
During the meeting, Gilani praised Cambodia’s progress in peace, reconciliation and national unity, describing its experience as an inspiration for other nations.
He said parliaments had an important role to play in keeping dialogue open and building bridges between countries at a time of conflicts and economic challenges.
The Senate chairman said the ISC provides a platform for parliamentary leaders to promote dialogue, peace and cooperation and strengthen ties among nations.
Indonesia to host 3rd ISC
Gilani also announced that Indonesia will host the 3rd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference.
The announcement came as Cambodia hosted the second edition of the conference in Phnom Penh, bringing parliamentary representatives together to discuss cooperation and common global challenges.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Gilani conveyed his prayers for King Norodom Sihamoni’s health and for peace and prosperity in Cambodia.
He also reaffirmed the importance of friendship and cooperation among the participating nations.
