Pakistan strike early as Australia bat first in series-deciding third ODI

LAHORE, June 4: Pakistan made an encouraging start in the third and deciding One-Day International against Australia after fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed opener Matthew Short in the opening over at Gaddafi Stadium.

The match will determine the winner of the three-match ODI series, which was level at 1-1 heading into the final encounter. Australia captain Josh Inglis won the toss and elected to bat first.

Pakistan’s bowlers applied early pressure, with Afridi providing the breakthrough before Australia could open their account. Matthew Short was caught by Sahibzada Farhan after facing two deliveries and was dismissed for a duck.

Australia rebuild after early setback

Following the early wicket, captain Josh Inglis and Marnus Labuschagne began rebuilding the innings for the visitors.

At the latest update, Australia had reached 18 for 1 in 4.1 overs, with Inglis unbeaten on 10 and Labuschagne on 7.

Series on the line in Lahore

The third ODI is being played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, where both teams are competing for the series victory after sharing the first two matches.

Pakistan entered the contest looking to capitalize on home conditions, while Australia aimed to recover from the early loss and establish a competitive total.
