Police Say Two Suspected TTP-Linked Extortionists Killed in Karachi Encounter

KARACHI: Two suspected extortionists killed in a police encounter in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area have been identified as alleged operatives linked to a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander, according to police.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) said the suspects were wanted in an extortion case involving threats against a hospital owner and a doctor. Police also said both men were Afghan nationals.

According to SSP SIU Dr. Samiullah Soomro, the suspects were identified as Sher Khan alias Sohrab, son of Mehrab, and Saeed Mohammad, son of Syed Mehruddin.

Police said the two men were associated with TTP commander Faiz Mohammad alias Faizi, who is believed to be based in Afghanistan. Authorities allege the suspects remained in contact with the commander and received instructions regarding extortion activities.

Wanted in Rs100 Million Extortion Case

Police said the suspects were wanted in an extortion case registered at Sohrab Goth Police Station.

According to investigators, on July 5, the suspects allegedly demanded Rs100 million in extortion from a doctor and the owner of a hospital in Quetta Town. The SIU had been investigating the case and traced the suspects through technical surveillance and human intelligence.

Police Describe Encounter

The SIU said its team attempted to arrest the suspects during an operation on Thursday night. According to the police account, the suspects opened fire on officers, prompting retaliatory fire in which both men were killed.

Authorities said they recovered two 30-bore pistols and two mobile phones, including one allegedly used to communicate with victims during the extortion attempts.

Investigation Continues

Police said cases against the suspects had already been registered under Sections 384 and 385 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with Section 25-D of the Telegraph Act.

Officials added that Sher Khan had also been named in two criminal cases registered in 2025. The SIU has registered additional cases and said further investigations are underway.
