PESHAWAR, July 16: Members of the Sunni Khel Qol Committee staged a protest in Peshawar on Thursday, demanding enforcement of an agreed decision in a longstanding land dispute and the removal of what they described as an illegal armed check post.
The protesters said the unresolved dispute and the alleged check post were affecting the movement of local residents, including elders, women and students.
The demonstration was led by committee chairman Mufti Sanaullah, along with Dil Nawaz, Khalid Usman, Muslim Khan and Maulana Abdullah.
Addressing the gathering, speakers alleged that the dispute began after the Zarghan Khel tribe claimed ancestral land belonging to the Sunni Khel community.
They said both sides had earlier agreed in writing to accept a mutually approved mechanism for resolving the matter. According to the committee, the process was completed, but the resulting decision has not yet been implemented.
The protesters alleged that objections were raised only after the decision had been announced, despite both parties previously accepting the procedure in writing.
They called for the dispute to be resolved in accordance with the terms agreed by both sides.
Protesters Raise Concerns Over Check Post
The committee also alleged that members of the Zarghan Khel tribe had established an armed check post on a government road used by the Sunni Khel community.
According to the protesters, the check post was obstructing travel and creating difficulties for local residents and daily commuters.
They appealed to the federal and provincial governments, as well as other relevant authorities, to investigate the matter, remove the alleged illegal check post and ensure a peaceful and lawful settlement of the land dispute.
The committee warned that it could expand the protest and block the Kohat Highway if its demands were not addressed.
