SWAT: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected a disqualification petition filed by former MPA Azizullah Gran against Provincial Housing Minister Dr Amjad Ali, ruling that the allegations of asset concealment and false declarations were not substantiated.
The petition alleged that Dr Amjad Ali had provided incorrect information in his asset declarations and concealed assets. The case was heard by a larger ECP bench constituted following directions from the High Court.
ECP Finds Allegations Unsubstantiated
After reviewing the relevant records, reports and arguments presented by both sides, the commission dismissed the petition, concluding that Azizullah Gran had failed to establish the allegations against Dr Amjad Ali.
A similar petition filed by Gran had previously been dismissed by the court of the Sessions Judge.
Dr Amjad Ali Welcomes Decision
Reacting to the ECP ruling, Dr Amjad Ali congratulated PTI workers in Swat and across Pakistan, describing the decision as a victory for truth and justice.
He said he had consistently raised his voice on issues he believed involved truth and justice and had also spoken against what he described as the alleged mistreatment of party workers on November 26.
Dr Amjad Ali added that he would continue to stand by what he described as the principles of truth and justice.
