Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV: Can You Really Drive 100 KM for Free?

9 Min Read

LAHORE: Can a Rs9.5 million plug-in hybrid really cover around 100 kilometres of daily driving without burning petrol? An early real-world experience with the locally assembled Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV suggests it can — provided the battery is regularly charged at home.

After around 3,000 kilometres of driving in Lahore, including daily commuting, congested city roads and trips to construction sites, the Tiggo 7 PHEV has reportedly delivered more than 100 kilometres of electric-only range on a single charge.

That is particularly significant for motorists looking to cut their monthly petrol bills without moving completely to an electric vehicle.

The crossover’s owner, Khurram, is a construction contractor who travels around 150 kilometres between different sites on a typical day. With the first roughly 100 kilometres covered largely on battery power, his reported overall fuel economy has exceeded 25 kilometres per litre when the vehicle is regularly charged at home.

Of course, those 100 kilometres are not literally free: charging the battery consumes electricity. But compared with running the same distance entirely on petrol, the ability to complete much of the daily commute in EV mode can substantially reduce fuel consumption.

Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV Real-World EV Range

The Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV uses an 18.3 kWh battery and has a claimed pure-electric range of more than 90 kilometres.

In this particular real-world experience, however, the crossover has consistently returned over 100 kilometres of electric driving on a full charge.

Actual range can vary depending on traffic, driving style, air-conditioning use, weather, road conditions and other factors.

For motorists whose daily travel falls within or close to that range, regular home charging could allow a large proportion of routine journeys to be completed without relying heavily on the petrol engine.

What Does ‘100 KM for Free’ Actually Mean?

The biggest attraction of a plug-in hybrid is that it can operate as an electric vehicle for shorter journeys while retaining a petrol engine for longer trips.

In the Tiggo 7 PHEV’s case, the reported 100km-plus EV range means many owners with access to home charging could potentially complete their normal daily city commute predominantly on electricity.

The phrase “100 KM for free” therefore refers to driving without consuming petrol during that portion of the journey — not to zero running cost. Owners still have to pay for the electricity required to recharge the battery.

Once the available battery charge is depleted, the vehicle can continue travelling using its hybrid powertrain, removing the range concern associated with a fully electric vehicle.

Tiggo 7 PHEV Fuel Average on Longer Trips

The difference becomes more noticeable when the vehicle cannot be regularly plugged in.

During longer highway journeys without charging, the reviewed Tiggo 7 PHEV returned around 16 to 17 km/l, according to the ownership experience.

With regular overnight charging during everyday use, the reported overall average rises above 25 km/l because a substantial portion of the daily distance is completed in pure-electric mode.

This makes access to home charging an important factor in determining how much a PHEV owner can actually save on petrol.

Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV Price in Pakistan

The Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV carries an ex-factory price of around Rs9.5 million, while the reviewed vehicle cost approximately Rs10 million on the road after registration and applicable taxes.

Khurram booked the Tiggo 7 before its final price was announced.

He had previously experienced the larger Tiggo 8 at an automotive event but opted for the Tiggo 7 because his family did not require a seven-seat vehicle.

The five-seat crossover was considered better suited to his everyday city requirements.

Charging at Home

The Tiggo 7 PHEV comes with a 3 kW portable charger, while the reviewed vehicle also received a 7 kW home wallbox charger.

Using the 7 kW charger, the battery reportedly takes around two hours to charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent.

For motorists able to recharge overnight at home, the car can therefore begin most days with substantial electric range available.

That charging routine is central to extracting the biggest fuel-saving benefit from any plug-in hybrid.

How Does Tiggo 7 PHEV Handle Lahore Roads?

The vehicle has also been driven on rough and unpaved roads around construction sites during its first 3,000 kilometres.

Despite those conditions, the owner reported no significant underbody scraping.

Its suspension was described as comfortable over speed breakers and rough surfaces, including when carrying five adult passengers.

The Tiggo 7 PHEV also comes equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The owner said he sometimes switches off functions such as Automatic Emergency Braking during congested city driving because motorcycles and pedestrians can trigger sudden interventions.

Interior Gets a Premium Treatment

The Tiggo 7 PHEV combines its electrified powertrain with a feature-heavy cabin.

It features a dual-screen layout supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad.

The vehicle retains physical buttons for frequently used functions such as air conditioning and switching between EV and hybrid modes rather than placing every control inside the touchscreen interface.

Front occupants get heated and ventilated seats, while electric adjustment, memory functions and a panoramic sunroof add to the equipment list.

The vehicle also features a built-in 1080p dashcam, which can record driving footage along with information associated with indicators and sudden braking.

Coming from a Toyota Yaris, the owner described the Tiggo 7 as a substantial step up in cabin equipment and comfort.

What About After-Sales Support?

The reviewed Tiggo 7 PHEV was booked in April and delivered in July.

Its first 1,000-kilometre inspection at Chery Defence Lahore was carried out free of charge, according to the owner.

Parts prices remain an important consideration for buyers evaluating newer Chinese crossovers against established Japanese alternatives, making comprehensive insurance and long-term after-sales support relevant factors in the purchase decision.

Is the Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV Worth Considering?

The early real-world experience highlights what could be the Tiggo 7 PHEV’s biggest selling point: the ability to handle roughly 100 kilometres of everyday driving on electricity while retaining a petrol engine for longer journeys.

For someone travelling substantial distances every day and able to charge at home, that combination could significantly reduce petrol consumption.

The reported 100km-plus electric range and 25km/l-plus overall fuel economy are based on one vehicle’s usage and should not be treated as guaranteed figures for every driver.

Actual results will depend on charging habits, journey length, traffic, driving style, weather, road conditions and use of climate control.

Still, for buyers considering a plug-in hybrid around the Rs10 million mark, the more useful question may no longer be simply how much fuel the Tiggo 7 PHEV consumes — but how much of the daily journey can be completed without using petrol at all.
