SWAT: The District Steering Committee for Health has reviewed the performance of public health facilities in Swat and directed officials to address gaps in service delivery, including shortages of medicines, non-functional medical equipment, cleanliness issues and staff attendance.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Swat Saleem Jan Marwat and attended by senior health officials, monitoring officers, hospital representatives and officials from the Population Welfare Department and Drug Inspectorate.
Health Facilities Reviewed
District Monitoring Officer Adil Iqbal briefed the meeting on the performance of government health facilities based on reports from the Independent Monitoring Unit. The review covered staff attendance, cleanliness, availability of medicines, functioning of medical equipment and other service-delivery indicators.
Officials also reviewed progress on decisions taken during the committee’s previous meeting.
Focus on Medicines and Medical Equipment
Deputy Commissioner Saleem Jan Marwat directed authorities to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services at government hospitals and basic health units.
He stressed the need for clean facilities, safe drinking water, timely availability of essential medicines, regular staff attendance and courteous treatment of patients.
He also ordered officials to keep diagnostic equipment, including ECG, X-ray and ultrasound machines, operational. Non-functional equipment should be repaired promptly, while shortages of essential facilities should be addressed through practical measures.
Monitoring and Accountability
The deputy commissioner directed health authorities to strengthen performance monitoring and accountability across public health facilities.
He said officials showing good performance should be encouraged, while those found negligent should face action under the relevant rules.
Marwat further said major deficiencies and irregularities identified by the Independent Monitoring Unit would be referred to the Secretary Health, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for necessary action and policy-level guidance.
