ISLAMABAD: The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and the Women Parliamentarians Caucus have called for immediate, transparent and impartial investigations into recent cases of violence against women across Pakistan, with particular focus on the murder of Hina Javed.
Members of the Women Parliamentarians Caucus met NCSW Chairperson Noureen Bano Lehri and expressed concern over a recent rise in reported cases, particularly incidents in Rawalpindi and Islamabad over the past 10 days.
Calls for Accountability in Hina Javed Case
The participants demanded a thorough investigation into Hina Javed’s murder and urged relevant institutions to provide full support to law enforcement agencies so that all facts can be established and those found responsible can face legal action.
They stressed that cases of violence against women reported in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Balochistan and other parts of the country should be investigated without unnecessary delays or negligence.
The Women Parliamentarians Caucus also pledged to raise the Hina Javed case and the broader issue of violence against women in Parliament to seek stronger oversight and accountability.
NCSW Complaint System to Be Strengthened
The meeting also discussed strengthening the NCSW Complaint Management System (CMS) to provide women facing violence with more accessible channels for complaints, referrals, legal assistance and protection.
The parliamentarians expressed support for strengthening the commission’s institutional capacity and enabling it to more effectively fulfil its legal and constitutional responsibilities.
Members were also briefed on the NCSW Strategic Plan 2026–2029, which focuses on women’s protection, access to justice, empowerment and stronger institutional response mechanisms.
MNA Shahida Rehmani praised NCSW Chairperson Noureen Bano Lehri’s efforts and pledged parliamentary support for initiatives aimed at improving access to justice for women facing violence, discrimination and other vulnerable circumstances, including women in prisons.
Call for Coordinated National Response
The meeting emphasised that violence against women requires a coordinated response involving law enforcement, government institutions, Parliament and complaint mechanisms.
Noureen Bano Lehri reaffirmed the NCSW’s commitment to working with Parliament, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen protection, accountability and access to justice for women.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen institutional mechanisms and ensure that reported cases of violence against women are properly investigated and pursued under the law.
