RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces have killed 17 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted in multiple districts of Balochistan following the train incident reported on May 24, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the military’s media wing said the operations were carried out in Mastung, Nushki, Zehri, Khuzdar and Kech districts as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the province.

According to the ISPR, security forces engaged multiple militant hideouts during the operations. Following what it described as intense exchanges of fire, 17 militants belonging to what the military termed “Fitna-al-Hindustan” were killed.

The statement said the operations dealt a significant blow to militant networks operating in the affected areas.

Weapons and explosives recovered

The ISPR said security forces recovered weapons, ammunition, explosives and prepared improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the killed militants.

According to the military, the individuals were allegedly involved in a number of militant activities in the region.

Sanitisation operations continue

The military said sanitisation operations are continuing to clear the areas of any remaining militants and facilitators.

The ISPR added that Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations under the framework of Azm-e-Istehkam, which was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.

According to the statement, efforts will continue to eliminate what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism and maintain security across the country.
