Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan has directed authorities in Kasur to strengthen sanitation, waste collection and cleanliness operations under the Suthra Punjab programme, with special attention to roads, markets, residential areas, public places and healthcare facilities.
The minister issued the directives while chairing a meeting on the Suthra Punjab Kasur initiative at the Law Department in Lahore on August 20. Officials briefed the meeting on urban waste management, sanitation and public health conditions, as well as issues involving sanitation workers and labour welfare.
Minister Calls for Better Waste Management
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan directed relevant authorities to make the cleanliness system more effective and better coordinated, emphasizing that available resources should be used to provide residents with a clean and healthy environment.
He called for immediate action on public complaints related to sanitation and ordered continuous monitoring of cleanliness operations. Officials were directed to remain present in the field and ensure that prescribed cleanliness standards are maintained.
The minister also ordered special cleanliness arrangements on main roads, in markets, residential areas, government institutions and other public places. Identified garbage heaps and unhygienic conditions are to be removed promptly, while the waste collection system is to be further improved.
Focus on Healthcare Facilities
The minister stressed that sanitation is directly linked to public health and directed authorities to ensure additional cleanliness measures around hospitals, Basic Health Units and other healthcare facilities.
He also called for greater use of modern technology and monitoring mechanisms to improve the efficiency of sanitation operations.
Departments Asked to Coordinate
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said all relevant departments should work closely together to implement Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Suthra Punjab vision.
He also emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility involving government departments, local institutions and citizens. He called for public awareness campaigns to encourage residents to help keep their surroundings clean.
Officials attending the meeting included MD Suthra Punjab Kasur Rizwan Ashraf, CEO Health Kasur Dr. Sohail Tariq, DD Labour & Welfare Kasur Saqlain Abbas and other relevant officers.
