Rawalpindi and Taxila police have claimed a major breakthrough in the murder case of social media personality Shamsu Bibi, also known as Ayesha Gulamna, arresting five suspects including her father and brother.

According to a spokesperson for Rawalpindi Police, the arrested suspects include the victim’s father Fazal, her brother Bashir, cousin Ehsan, her father’s uncle Rozi Khan and Yaseen, the son of her cousin.

Police said the case had initially been treated as a blind murder, but investigators later traced the alleged involvement of members of the victim’s own family.

The spokesperson said that, on the instructions of City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, several special teams were formed to investigate the case and regularly briefed the CPO on developments.

As part of the investigation, police examined footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras and used human intelligence and other available resources to identify possible suspects and reconstruct events surrounding the killing.

Investigators subsequently expanded the scope of the probe and included Ayesha Gulamna’s father and brother in the investigation after examining the circumstances and available evidence.

Police claimed that during questioning, the suspects disclosed their alleged involvement in arranging the killing along with other accomplices.

According to the preliminary police investigation, the killing is suspected to have been carried out in the name of so-called honour. Police said, however, that the investigation remains underway and further details could emerge as the case progresses.

The spokesperson alleged that the suspects had attempted to mislead investigators and create a false narrative around the killing.
