ATTOCK: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has destroyed 350 litres of substandard juice and imposed a fine on a local trader during an enforcement operation in Attock aimed at protecting public health and ensuring food safety standards.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority, the action was carried out against a juice trader operating near the power plant area after laboratory tests confirmed that the product did not meet required food quality standards.

Samples collected during an inspection were sent for laboratory analysis, which later declared the juice unfit for consumption.

Lab tests reveal use of artificial sweeteners

The laboratory report found that artificial sweeteners and other substandard ingredients had been used in the juice. Officials said such ingredients could pose potential health risks to consumers if consumed regularly.

Following the findings, the Punjab Food Authority destroyed 350 litres of the juice on-site to prevent it from reaching consumers.

Fine imposed for food safety violations

The authority also imposed a fine of Rs40,000 on the trader for violating food safety regulations.

PFA officials said enforcement actions are being conducted regularly across the province to ensure compliance with food quality standards and to discourage the sale of adulterated or unsafe products.

Ongoing inspections across Punjab

The spokesperson said inspections, sampling, and testing of various food items, including beverages, are continuing throughout Punjab under directives issued by the provincial government.

The Punjab Food Authority reiterated its commitment to providing safe and quality food to the public and urged citizens to report complaints related to adulteration or substandard food products through the authority’s helpline, 1223.

Officials said public cooperation plays an important role in identifying food safety violations and protecting consumer health.
