Unseeded Shamlan Gul produced a major upset at the PSA Sindh Challenger Squash Championship in Karachi, defeating third-seeded Anas Shah 3-0 to book his place in the quarter-finals.
The match, played at the Jahangir Khan Sports Club, lasted 28 minutes, with Gul winning 11-9, 11-3 and 11-5. The $6,000 prize-money tournament, organised by the Sindh Squash Association, saw eight matches decided on the second day, completing the quarter-final lineup.
Nasir Iqbal Advances in 19 Minutes
Top seed Nasir Iqbal comfortably defeated Muhammad Zaman Khan 3-0 in just 19 minutes. Iqbal won 11-4, 11-3 and 11-1.
Second seed Tayyab Aslam also progressed after defeating Muhammad Babar, while Egypt’s Omar El-Kattan overcame Saddam-ul-Haq 3-1.
Saeed Abdul defeated Naveed Rehman, while Anas Khan secured a 3-2 victory over Ashar Butt following a closely contested 61-minute encounter.
Azan Ali Khan defeated Muhammad Ahmed, and Abdullah Nawaz beat Kaleemullah Shoaib in the other matches that completed the quarter-final field.
Quarter-Finals Set for Friday
All quarter-final matches of the PSA Sindh Challenger Squash Championship will be played on Friday in Karachi.
Former world champion Jahangir Khan welcomed the tournament and praised the Sindh Squash Association for regularly organising major competitions.
He said such events provide Pakistani players with opportunities to compete and urged them to work hard and make the most of these tournaments.
