LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced mandatory padel training for national cricketers as part of its efforts to improve player fitness, agility, and overall performance during training camps at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
To support the initiative, the PCB has established modern padel courts at the NCA, allowing players to incorporate the sport into their training routine without leaving the academy. The move is aimed at enhancing physical conditioning while providing an additional recreational activity during extended training camps.
New Padel Courts Added at NCA
Speaking to a private television channel, PCB High Performance Director Aaqib Javed said the newly built padel courts are intended to provide players with modern training and recreational facilities at a single location.
He said cricketers previously had to leave the academy to play padel, but the new facility now allows them to access the sport on-site throughout national training camps.
Mandatory Sessions During Training Camps
According to Aaqib Javed, players will be required to participate in approximately 40 minutes of padel every other day during long training camps.
He said padel helps improve overall fitness, speed, coordination, and movement, making it particularly beneficial for fielding and athletic performance in cricket.
PCB Plans to Expand Athlete Development
Aaqib Javed said the PCB also plans to introduce additional sports and recreational facilities at the National Cricket Academy as part of its long-term athlete development strategy.
He added that exposure to different sports can improve athletic ability, maintain mental freshness, and support better overall performance during lengthy training programs.
