Pakistan women’s football team player Maryam Mahmood has been honoured by English club Wrexham AFC, with her name added to the club’s international honours board following her representation of Pakistan.
The recognition makes Mahmood the first female footballer to be listed on the Wrexham FC Women’s honours board. Pakistan men’s team player Umer Nawaz is also already featured on the club’s honours board.
Maryam Mahmood Calls Honour a Proud Moment
Speaking about the recognition, Maryam Mahmood said she felt extremely happy and proud to see her name on the honours board.
She described representing Pakistan internationally as an incredible journey and said seeing her name alongside Wrexham’s legends felt like a dream.
Mahmood said making her debut for Pakistan and receiving strong support from fans was a memorable experience. She also highlighted playing three matches in Ivory Coast as another significant moment in her career.
Aiming to Inspire Young Girls
Mahmood said she wants to inspire the younger generation, particularly girls, to pursue football and believe in their potential.
She noted that she did not have a female role model to look up to when she was growing up, and said she now hopes to become an example for young girls interested in the sport.
Her recognition at Wrexham adds another milestone to her international football journey and places her alongside Pakistani players previously honoured by the club.
