Messi Responds To FIFA Bias Claims After Argentina Reach World Cup Final

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has dismissed allegations of FIFA favoritism and match-fixing following his team’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, saying Argentina’s achievements are the result of years of hard work and consistent performances.

Speaking to the media after Argentina’s 2-1 victory over England in the semi-final, Messi responded to questions about claims circulating on social media regarding alleged bias in Argentina’s favor. He said the national team has been among the world’s best over the past four years and has earned its success on the pitch.

Messi Defends Argentina’s Achievements

Messi said Argentina’s accomplishments were not the result of luck or outside assistance.

“We achieved everything through continuous hard work and strong performances. Nobody gives us anything for free,” he said, rejecting suggestions that the team had benefited from preferential treatment.

Tribute To Diego Maradona

The Argentina captain also dedicated the semi-final victory to football legend Diego Maradona.

Messi said Maradona would have been proud of the team’s achievement and described the win as a tribute to the former captain, recalling Argentina’s memorable victory over England during the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

Argentina To Face Spain In Final

Argentina secured a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final after defeating England 2-1 in the semi-final.

The defending champions are now set to face Spain in the tournament’s title match.
