TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that diplomatic contacts between Iran and the United States have not been severed, stating that both countries are currently reviewing exchanged texts and proposals.

In an interview with a Lebanese television channel, Araghchi said that Iran’s armed forces continue defensive operations against US interests or locations being used by the United States, and that Iran has the capability to respond immediately and decisively to any act of aggression.

He warned that if Israel attacks Beirut or any part of Lebanon, Iran would deliver a strong and decisive response.

Earlier, the Iranian foreign minister also held telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of several countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, France, Turkey, Qatar and Egypt. The discussions focused on the latest regional developments and prospects for reducing tensions.

According to Iranian diplomatic sources, Araghchi also spoke by telephone with Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, during which regional peace and security issues were discussed.

Experts say that the continuation of contacts between Iran and the United States indicates that although tensions remain high in the region, diplomatic channels have not been completely closed and the possibility of future negotiations still exists.
