RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), departed for Iran on Monday along with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as Pakistan intensifies its efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the high-level visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran forms part of Pakistan’s continuing efforts to support regional peace and stability.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir will focus on efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution of the conflict in the Middle East, the military’s media wing said.
The visit comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic engagement aimed at easing regional tensions and encouraging a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
Iran had earlier said Field Marshal Munir would hold discussions with senior Iranian officials during his visit, with talks expected to focus on regional peace and security as well as bilateral cooperation.
Pakistan has remained engaged with regional stakeholders amid continuing tensions in the Middle East, advocating dialogue and diplomacy as the path towards a sustainable settlement.
The presence of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in the delegation further underscores the high-level nature of Islamabad’s engagement with Tehran at a time when regional security and stability remain a key focus of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
