ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected a BBC Urdu report alleging that police in Azad Jammu and Kashmir stopped civilians carrying food, medicines and fuel and ordered them to destroy the supplies, saying the claim lacked independent verification.
According to the ministry, the report’s headline and central allegation were based on the account of a single anonymous source identified through a pseudonym. It said no video evidence, independent witnesses, official record or third-party verification had been presented to support the serious claim.

The ministry said police and district authorities in AJK had already denied the allegation and maintained that vehicles carrying essential supplies were being facilitated. Officials said disruptions in some areas were linked to protest-related road blockades, not any official action to stop food, medicine or fuel from reaching civilians.
The issue was also addressed at a joint press conference by the Chief Secretary AJK and Inspector General of Police AJK on June 23. Officials said protesters associated with the proscribed Action Committee had allegedly attempted to stop and loot trucks carrying commodities into the region.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also cited an AJK police press release, which it said confirmed uninterrupted road accessibility and facilitation of supply vehicles.

Authorities maintained that the BBC Urdu report did not provide sufficient evidence to substantiate the allegation that police forced civilians to destroy food, medicines or fuel. They said the claim was incorrect and risked creating a misleading narrative around the situation in AJK.
The matter comes amid continuing tensions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where authorities have blamed protest-related closures for public inconvenience while rejecting claims that essential supplies are being blocked by security personnel.
The government urged the public to rely on verified information and official updates regarding road access, supply movement and the law-and-order situation in the region.
