Babar Azam says Pakistan’s inability to build strong partnerships proved costly during the Sylhet Test against Bangladesh, with the batting unit struggling to maintain momentum after losing key wickets.

Babar Azam admitted Pakistan struggled to build partnerships during the second day of the Sylhet Test against Bangladesh, saying the batting side failed to capitalise on starts and lost wickets too quickly.

Speaking at a press conference after the match, Babar said several batters were dismissed to straightforward deliveries, which prevented Pakistan from establishing momentum during the innings.

The former Pakistan captain said his dismissal and that of Salman Ali Agha proved to be a turning point in the match. He added that the batting unit needed to take responsibility for the shortcomings, stressing that Test teams require at least two or three strong partnerships to post competitive totals.

Babar also pointed to Pakistan’s recurring issue of losing wickets in clusters after a breakthrough, saying the team management was working to address the problem.

He said the side does not enter matches with a negative mindset but acknowledged that Pakistan had fallen short of public expectations. According to Babar, additional training camps could help improve the team’s overall performance and consistency in Test cricket.
