MARDAN: Member of the Provincial Assembly Abdul Salam Afridi said public service and the supremacy of the Constitution remained central to his party’s politics, while accusing the federal government of adopting a discriminatory approach toward Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Fazal Shah, a senior Khudai Khidmatgar from Union Council Baghdada in Mardan, where discussions focused on local political conditions, development projects, public issues and the broader national situation.
Abdul Salam Afridi said elected representatives were responsible for carrying out development work and ensuring the provision of basic facilities to the public. He said efforts had been made to secure funds for projects related to roads, education, healthcare, electricity and gas in his constituency.
Afridi raises concerns over withheld development funds
The MPA alleged that development funds allocated for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been withheld by the federal government, affecting ongoing and planned projects in the province.
He also said the current political climate was marked by political victimisation and disregard for the public mandate, adding that he would continue raising his voice for constitutional governance, democracy and the rule of law.
Referring to former prime minister Imran Khan, Abdul Salam Afridi said political efforts for his release would continue through constitutional and democratic means.
During the meeting, Fazal Shah praised Abdul Salam Afridi’s efforts regarding public welfare projects and resolving local issues, saying the public expected elected representatives to advocate for people’s rights during difficult times.
