ISLAMABAD, July 17, 2026: The United States government has awarded Fulbright scholarships to 85 Pakistani students and researchers who will pursue master’s and PhD degrees at universities across the US.

The 2026 cohort includes 71 master’s students and 14 PhD scholars from all four provinces of Pakistan. Their fields of study include engineering, artificial intelligence, business, finance, public policy and social sciences.

Six Pakistani participants have also been selected for the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant programme and will begin their academic exchanges in the United States this fall.

The scholarships cover tuition fees, international travel, living expenses and health insurance.

Scholars Prepare for Study in United States

The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan, which administers the Fulbright programme, organised a two-day pre-departure orientation in Islamabad to prepare the scholars for their studies and life in the US.

US Chargé d’Affaires Andy Halus told the participants that Pakistan hosts one of the world’s largest Fulbright programmes, reflecting the strength of educational cooperation between the two countries.

He said academic exchanges help create long-term relationships between communities and promote mutual understanding between Pakistan and the United States.

Halus also praised the recipients for earning the scholarships through their academic ability, determination and hard work.

Programme Covers Key Academic Fields

USEFP Executive Director Dr Peter Moran said the Fulbright programme supports study and research in fields that are important for Pakistan’s development.

He said the experience also encourages Pakistani scholars to engage with American communities, share their culture and establish professional and academic connections.

The programme is jointly funded by the governments of Pakistan and the United States and is designed to equip scholars with knowledge and skills that can help address national and regional challenges.

Recipients gain access to US universities, research facilities and academic experts while participating in cultural and professional exchanges.

Nearly 3,000 Pakistanis Awarded Scholarships Since 2005

According to USEFP, nearly 3,000 Pakistanis have received Fulbright scholarships since 2005.

Many alumni return to Pakistan after completing their studies and contribute to universities, government institutions, businesses, research organisations and local communities.

USEFP is a binational commission established by Pakistan and the United States in 1950 to administer educational and cultural exchange programmes.

The Fulbright programme remains one of the largest and most prominent academic exchange initiatives between the two countries.
