ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has asked universities across Pakistan to review and transform their degree programmes and curricula as part of a nationwide initiative to prepare graduates for the opportunities and challenges of Industrial Revolution 5.0.

The initiative aims to align higher education with evolving labour market demands by integrating emerging technologies, strengthening industry-academia collaboration, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and equipping students with future-ready skills.

Nationwide Curriculum Transformation

According to the HEC, the curriculum review exercise is being carried out in collaboration with universities, National Curriculum Review Committees (NCRCs), accreditation councils, industry representatives, and subject experts under the guidance of a National Task Force.

The commission has urged universities to identify emerging academic disciplines and modernize existing programmes to ensure graduates are better prepared for a rapidly changing global economy.

Focus on Green and Digital Economy

HEC said the reforms are intended to support Pakistan’s transition toward a green, digital, and inclusive economy by embedding modern technologies and practical skills into academic programmes.

The initiative also seeks to strengthen links between higher education institutions and industry, ensuring that university graduates possess the knowledge and competencies needed to meet future workforce requirements.
