Sindh’s Education Department has expanded its digital attendance and student monitoring system to 3,481 government schools, with parents set to receive SMS alerts when students are repeatedly absent from school.
The system is designed to modernize attendance and academic record-keeping across public schools. Under the initiative, each student will receive an individual digital profile containing attendance, academic performance and examination records.
Digital Profiles and Attendance Monitoring
According to the Education Department, 3,481 government schools had been integrated into the system by August 10. The provincial government has set a target of bringing all government schools under the digital system by April 2027.
The system will monitor daily attendance and help identify students who are repeatedly absent and may be at greater risk of dropping out. Parents will receive SMS notifications in cases of continued absence, allowing them to follow up on their child’s attendance.
Each student will also be assigned a unique student ID and QR code. The digital platform is expected to support the preparation of academic reports and the issuance of student certificates.
Offline Attendance and New Technology
The department said the system has been designed to accommodate schools and students in areas with limited internet connectivity. An offline attendance feature will allow attendance data to be recorded even where reliable internet access is unavailable.
The system will also use technologies including geofencing and facial recognition as part of its attendance and monitoring mechanisms.
Plan to Link Student Records With Other Systems
The policy was approved by the Sindh Cabinet in March 2026. The government also plans to eventually integrate the digital education system with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
The initiative aims to improve school attendance, keep parents informed about students’ participation in education and enable earlier identification of children at risk of leaving school.
