US congressman praises Pakistan’s role in US-Iran ceasefire efforts

WASHINGTON: US Congressman Jack Bergman has praised Pakistan’s role in US-Iran ceasefire efforts, saying Islamabad’s diplomatic engagement helped bring Washington and Tehran to the negotiating table.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Bergman expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s political and military leadership during ongoing peace efforts between the United States and Iran. The development highlights Pakistan’s diplomatic role at a time of heightened regional tensions.

Bergman, who serves as co-chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, said Pakistan’s efforts reflected “true statesmanship” and thanked the country’s leadership for its guidance in supporting dialogue between the two sides.

The Congressional Pakistan Caucus also conveyed gratitude and appreciation for Pakistan’s political and military leadership, according to the statement.

Bergman said Pakistan-US relations carry long-term strategic importance and noted that both the White House and the US Congress had publicly acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic role.

He also said he planned to visit Pakistan soon to support efforts aimed at further strengthening strategic ties between Islamabad and Washington.

Pakistan’s diplomatic role draws attention

Pakistan has often called for dialogue and restraint during regional crises, particularly in situations involving the Middle East and major international powers. The latest remarks by Bergman place renewed focus on Islamabad’s engagement in diplomatic efforts linked to the United States and Iran.

The letter also comes as Pakistan and the United States continue to discuss cooperation in areas including security, trade, regional stability and strategic engagement.
