Swat authorities seize large stock of unhygienic spices in warehouse raid

SWAT, April 22, 2026 — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority conducted a raid on a warehouse in Swat, recovering a large quantity of unhygienic and prohibited food items, officials said.

The raid on warehouse followed a tip-off and was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Director Dr Murad Ali. Authorities said the operation targeted suspected storage of substandard and misbranded food products.

During the inspection, officials seized 7,044 packets of various spices, including biryani mix, along with 860 packets of black pepper. They also recovered 100 packets of Chinese salt and 144 packets of chalya, some of which are restricted items under food safety regulations.

Enforcement action

Officials said the items were packed in branded packaging but did not meet required safety standards. The warehouse was sealed on the spot, and the traders involved were fined under relevant provisions of the Food Safety Act.

Authorities confirmed that further legal proceedings and investigations are underway to determine the source and distribution of the products.

Ongoing inspections

Food safety officials stated that operations against substandard and counterfeit food products will continue across the region to ensure public health and compliance with regulations.
