RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding bilateral defence and security cooperation, the military’s media wing said on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a high-level Congolese defence delegation led by Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules, Chief of Defence of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security environment and opportunities to strengthen defence and security ties.
Both officials expressed satisfaction over the longstanding relations between Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, while the newly signed MoU is expected to provide a framework for broader cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier, the visiting Congolese defence chief also held separate meetings with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.
ISPR said Lieutenant General Jules praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and acknowledged progress made through indigenisation and greater self-reliance in the defence sector.
Upon his arrival at GHQ, the visiting dignitary was presented a Guard of Honour by a tri-services contingent.
The visit reflects growing engagement between Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo in defence and security, with both sides seeking to broaden institutional cooperation.
