Punjab cyclist wins Lahore road race as cycling federation plans more event

LAHORE: More than 50 cyclists from across Pakistan took part in a 50-kilometre cycling race in Lahore, showcasing endurance and skill in a competition aimed at promoting the sport across the country.

The event brought together cycling enthusiasts from different regions and highlighted growing interest in competitive cycling. Organizers said additional events, including competitions for women, are being planned as part of broader efforts to expand the sport.

The race began at Punjab Stadium and followed a route through Walton Road, Canal Road and Mall Road before concluding at Liberty Chowk. Participants competed over the 50-kilometre course in challenging conditions, demonstrating speed and technical ability throughout the event.

After a closely contested race, Muhammad Shakeel of Punjab secured first place, winning the gold medal and a cash prize of Rs30,000. Arsalan of the Pakistan Army finished second to claim the silver medal, while Talha Khan secured third place and received the bronze medal along with a cash award.

Federation plans expansion of cycling events

Speaking after the event, Cycling Federation President Khawaja Idrees Haider said further steps are being taken to promote cycling in Pakistan.

He announced that a dedicated cycling race for women is expected to be organized in the near future. He also said several major cycling events are planned for 2026 as part of efforts to encourage wider participation and strengthen the sport’s profile nationwide.
