Former India cricketer and national team batting coach Sanjay Bangar’s daughter, Anaya Bangar, has announced plans to return to women’s cricket in Australia, saying she wants any place in a team to be earned through performance rather than identity.
Speaking at a press conference, Anaya said she is preparing to play elite-level cricket from March 2027 under a pathway established by Cricket Australia. Her eligibility will depend on meeting the governing body’s applicable requirements, including a blood test scheduled for March 2027.
Eligibility to Be Assessed in 2027
Anaya said Cricket Australia has provided a pathway that takes into account principles of fairness, competitive integrity and inclusion in cricket.
Under the process, she could become eligible for elite women’s cricket and consideration for the Women’s Big Bash League if she meets the required testosterone criteria in the March 2027 testing process.
However, Anaya stressed that the pathway does not guarantee her a place in a team. She will have to compete for selection and demonstrate her ability on the field.

Anaya said she wants to be judged on her cricket rather than her identity and hopes her performances will determine whether she earns a place in a team.
Her planned return comes as she prepares to pursue opportunities in Australia’s women’s cricket system, with the next stage dependent on the outcome of the prescribed eligibility process.
