Police in Quetta are investigating the motive behind the acid attack on Dr Mahnoor Nasir, a doctor at Civil Hospital Quetta, as authorities continue efforts to determine whether others were involved in the incident.
Dr Mahnoor Nasir was attacked while on duty at the hospital on Saturday. Following the incident, the Balochistan government arranged her transfer to Aga Khan University Hospital for specialised medical treatment.
According to police officials, a case has been registered against the suspected attacker, identified as Humayun Shah, who was killed while allegedly attempting to flee after the attack. Investigators are now questioning hospital staff and individuals who knew the suspect in an effort to establish the motive and determine whether additional people were involved.
Authorities pledge full support
A senior police official said investigators are examining all possible angles of the case and gathering evidence to identify any individuals who may have played a role in the incident.
Balochistan Chief Minister visited the hospital on Sunday to inquire about Dr Mahnoor’s condition and assured her family of the government’s support during her recovery.
Meanwhile, Jaffar Khan Mandokhail contacted Dr Mahnoor’s father, Habibullah Khan Nasir, and offered assistance for specialised treatment and plastic surgery abroad if required.
The governor said the provincial government has been covering all treatment-related expenses since the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting healthcare professionals.
Young Doctors Association continues strike
The attack has prompted continued protests by the Young Doctors Association in Quetta.
Doctors maintained a strike across government hospitals in the provincial capital, suspending outpatient and several other services while demanding improved workplace security.
Protesters also established a demonstration camp at the hospital, where speakers criticised health authorities and called for stronger measures to ensure the safety of doctors and paramedical staff.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet announced a final conclusion regarding the motive behind the attack.
