A judicial commission investigating the death of Mir Raza has announced a Rs100,000 reward for anyone who provides significant information that could assist in the case, as the inquiry committee began reviewing evidence and witness accounts in Karachi.
Commission Chairman Justice Umar Sial said the investigation would be conducted transparently and that proceedings would remain open to the public. He said the commission would make every effort to establish the facts and would not conceal relevant information.
Commission Given 30 Days
Justice Sial said the commission has been given 30 days to complete its investigation and reach its findings. He said transparency was essential to improving public confidence in institutions.
The commission will issue an advertisement seeking information from people who may have knowledge about the case. An official email address and WhatsApp number will also be provided so that information can be submitted directly.
A reward of Rs100,000 will be given to anyone who provides specific and important information relevant to the investigation.
Details of Mir Raza’s Last Known Movements
During the hearing, lawyer Jibran Nasir told the commission that Mir Ali Raza left his home at around 4am on July 28. CCTV footage from around 4:30am showed him alive, according to the information presented before the commission.
His body was found at around 11:50am on July 29 near Khizr-e-Masjid. Nasir said an FIR was registered 11 hours after Raza left home.
He further told the commission that the post-mortem examination was conducted by Dr Usama in the presence of the victim’s father.
Witnesses and Evidence to Be Reviewed
The body was recovered following information provided by nursery employees Yasir and Qaiser. Justice Sial directed the commission to summon the nursery employees, Edhi Foundation volunteers and relevant police officers to record their statements.
The commission also directed the Sindh government to provide a list of police officers and doctors linked to the case, along with information about all evidence collected during the investigation.
A notice will also be placed at the location where Mir Raza’s body was found to seek information from people who may have witnessed or know about the incident.
The commission directed Mir Hussain Ali to provide information relating to the first three days of the case, while the Sindh government’s focal person assured the panel that the requested documents would be provided.
Investigating officer Siraj Lashari was also directed to appear before the commission to assist with the inquiry.
The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday at 11am. A prayer for the deceased was also offered during the proceedings.
