LAHORE: Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi has successfully summited Kangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak, marking another major achievement for Pakistan’s high-altitude climbing community.
Sakhi, who hails from Hunza, reached the 8,586-metre peak in Nepal at 12:15am local time, according to reports. Before the summit push, he was also part of the rope-fixing team that prepared the route for other climbers.
Kangchenjunga is among the world’s most challenging mountains and is the third-highest peak after Mount Everest and K2.
Sakhi has previously climbed several major peaks, including K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II, strengthening his profile as one of Pakistan’s prominent high-altitude mountaineers.
