KARACHI: Pakistani celebrities have strongly condemned the acid attack on Dr Mahnoor Nasir, a doctor at Civil Hospital Quetta, calling for justice, accountability and greater protection for women following the incident that left her with severe burn injuries.
Dr Nasir sustained burns to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body in the attack. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Karachi for treatment. Police identified the alleged attacker as Humayun Shah, an employee at the hospital, who was killed during an encounter with law enforcement authorities while reportedly attempting to flee.
The attack has sparked widespread outrage across Pakistan, with public figures, actors and activists expressing concern over violence against women and the continued occurrence of acid attacks.

Actress Mariyam Nafees shared a video highlighting broader concerns about violence against women, while actress Saheefa Jabbar Khattak said attitudes that normalize discrimination against women contribute to an environment where such crimes can occur.
Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy said professional success and public service do not shield women from violence, adding that responsibility lies with both perpetrators and society’s failure to prevent such acts.

Actress Amna Ilyas emphasized the need for stricter regulation of corrosive substances and stronger accountability mechanisms. Television host Shaista Lodhi expressed concern that public outrage often fades without leading to lasting change.
Actress Sana Javed questioned how acid remains accessible enough to be used in violent attacks and said the incident reflected broader concerns about public safety.
Several celebrities also shared information on emergency first aid measures for acid attack victims in an effort to raise public awareness.
Focus on workplace safety and violence against women
