Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos has reportedly embraced Islam, according to a claim shared by Turkish ruling-party parliamentarian Ali Şahin.
Şahin said he learned about the alleged conversion during a meeting with representatives of Brazil’s Muslim community in São Paulo. According to Şahin, Sheikh Jihad Hamadeh told him that Carlos had been in contact with the community for some time.
The former Real Madrid star allegedly visited the group around four weeks ago, where he reportedly recited the Shahada and embraced Islam.
Şahin later shared the claim on social media, congratulating Carlos and praying for peace, health and prosperity for him and his family. Representatives of several Brazilian Islamic organizations were reportedly present during the meeting.
Roberto Carlos, 53, is widely regarded as one of football’s greatest left-backs. He spent much of his illustrious career at Real Madrid and later joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe in 2007.
However, Roberto Carlos has not publicly confirmed the reported conversion, and the claim remains unverified.
