AMSTELVEEN: India defeated Pakistan 5-3 in their Pool D clash at the 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup on Wednesday, ending Pakistan’s campaign while securing India’s place in the next stage of the tournament.

The match was played at Wagener Stadium, where India built an early lead through Harmanpreet Singh and Abhishek. Harmanpreet scored twice from penalty corners, while Abhishek added two field goals. Hardik Singh also found the net from a penalty stroke.

Pakistan Fight Back but Fall Short

Pakistan responded with goals from Hannan Shahid and Sufyan Khan, with Hannan scoring twice. The Green Shirts continued to push for a comeback but were unable to overturn India’s advantage.

India ultimately secured a 5-3 victory in the high-profile Pool D encounter, confirming their progression to the next stage.

The defeat brought Pakistan’s World Cup campaign to an end after the team returned to the competition following an extended absence. Pakistan had entered the tournament in a group featuring India, England and Wales.

England Finish Group Stage on Top

In the other Pool D fixture, England defeated Wales 8-2 to finish the group stage at the top.

India’s victory over Pakistan secured their progression alongside the teams advancing from the group, with the next phase featuring the leading sides from the tournament’s first stage.

The 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup is being hosted in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to 30.
