Senior Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah has said that his party does not support civil insurgency by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Speaking on private TV Channel’s program ‘Capital Talk’, he said that he has not decided to join PTI in a joint campaign.
Hamdullah said, if PTI approaches JUI-F for joint action, the matter will be looked into, but the policy does not give concrete definition. Criticizing PTI’s strategy, Hamdullah warned that the civil disobedience movement would harm PTI itself. The statement came in response to PTI leader Asad Qaiser’s continuous communication with Maulana Fazlur Rehman for a united campaign against the government.
Meanwhile, PTI leader Shaukat Yousufzai has said that he will announce civil disobedience from December 14 if the government does not engage in serious talks.
“We were contacted by [JUI-F Chief] Maulana Fazlur Rehman. We want to start a joint action against the government,” Qaiser said while talking to the media in Peshawar on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif slammed the PTI for threatening acts of civil disobedience against the government and termed the move as “enmity with Pakistan”.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, the prime minister expressed satisfaction at the increase in remittances, saying the growth was despite calls for civil disobedience by certain political parties and said it reflected the confidence of overseas Pakistanis in the government.
He also stressed the need for political stability for economic development and said that orders had been issued to ensure that those who tried to attack Islamabad would not escape.
In addition, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif urged the former ruling party to stand firm in the civil disobedience movement that was recently declared after attempts to “attack” the capital.
“I say [PTI’s] call for civil disobedience will not work […] nobody will burn their utility bills,” the PML-N leader said in a speech in the National Assembly.
