LAHORE, July 6, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday launched the computerized balloting process to allot cultivable government land to 30,000 landless families under the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar scheme, marking the start of a programme aimed at expanding access to farmland and improving rural livelihoods across the province.

The initiative will distribute 121,000 acres of cultivable state-owned agricultural land on a 20-year symbolic lease of Rs100 per acre annually. Beneficiaries will also receive financial assistance and technical support to help prepare and cultivate the land.

Computerized balloting completed

Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore, the chief minister said the programme, launched on April 22, received around 60,000 applications. Computerized balloting has now been completed for approximately 29,000 plots, with allotment letters to be issued within a week.

According to the provincial government, possession of the allotted land is expected to be handed over to successful applicants by July 31.

During the event, Maryam Nawaz telephoned Abdul Sattar, a successful applicant from Faisalabad, to congratulate him on receiving land under the programme.

Financial assistance for beneficiaries

Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive Rs50,000 per acre to support cultivation. Families allotted four acres will receive Rs200,000 to prepare the land, alongside technical assistance to improve agricultural productivity.

The chief minister said the initiative is designed to help landless families generate sustainable income while increasing agricultural production across Punjab.

Women applicants and merit-based selection

Maryam Nawaz said around 11,000 women applied for the programme. She added that applicants were given opportunities to submit appeals and attend personal hearings before the computerized draw was finalized.

She said only landless families were eligible for the scheme and maintained that the allotment process was conducted on merit without political influence or recommendations.

More land to be distributed

The chief minister announced that any additional cultivable government land identified across Punjab would also be distributed in phases, allowing more deserving families to benefit from the programme.

She reiterated that the land is being provided on a 20-year lease and said the computerized balloting process was carried out with transparency to ensure fair distribution.
