GAZA, July 6, 2026: Hamas has announced its decision to step down from governing the Gaza Strip and dissolve its administrative committee, paving the way for the formation of a technocratic administration based on a proposed National Committee for Civil Management.

According to media reports, the move is intended to facilitate the establishment of a new civil governance structure as part of ongoing political efforts concerning Gaza’s future administration following ceasefire negotiations.

A Hamas official said the movement had decided to dissolve the current governing structure and appoint a broadly acceptable public figure to oversee transitional responsibilities until the National Administrative Committee formally begins its work.

However, Hamas clarified that withdrawing from the civil administration does not mean it has agreed to fully disarm. The group said administrative authority could be transferred, but issues related to its weapons and military wing remain separate.

Hamas has governed Gaza’s civil administration since taking control of the territory in 2007 following armed clashes. The latest announcement is being viewed as part of broader political discussions over Gaza’s post-war governance.

Analysts say that if implemented, the plan would mark one of the most significant political changes in Gaza in nearly 20 years. However, they note that its success will depend on the formation of a new Palestinian administration, Israel’s response, and progress in ongoing peace negotiations.
