LAHORE: A district-level initiative to promote girls’ education in Kasur has been launched with a focus on increasing enrollment and improving student retention in public schools through community engagement and digital outreach.

The “Model District Enrollment Campaign,” led by the District Education Authority (DEA) Kasur in collaboration with YouTube, was introduced during an enrollment mela held at a government girls’ school in Basti Choop Shah. The campaign aims to develop practical strategies that can be replicated across other districts in Punjab.

Advisor to the Minister of Education Shakeel Ahmed Bhatti attended the event as chief guest, alongside local administrative and education officials. More than 250 participants, including teachers, education officers, and community members, took part in the activity.

At the event, 100 girls were enrolled and provided with school bags and books. Organisers said the campaign design was based on a pre-event survey that gathered input from local stakeholders, while a coordinated social media drive helped increase outreach.

Focus on retention and practical strategies

Officials highlighted that the campaign goes beyond initial enrollment by addressing retention challenges in public schools. District Education Officer Kasur Nasira Bashir pointed to past trends where enrollment declined after initial registration, stressing the need for sustained engagement.

Six thematic stalls were set up to demonstrate approaches for maintaining student participation, including early childhood education, activity-based learning, digital classrooms, and the use of technology such as artificial intelligence in teaching.

Community role and digital expansion

The event also emphasized community involvement in supporting schools. Education officials noted that local participation is key to ensuring continuity in girls’ education.

CEO DEA Kasur Shoukat Ali Khan announced the launch of a dedicated YouTube channel to support digital learning and expand access to educational content.

Officials described the initiative as a scalable model that could inform policy decisions at district and provincial levels, with the potential to improve access and continuity in girls’ education across Punjab.
