Peshawar: A ninth-grade student has approached the Peshawar High Court after receiving zero marks in the theory portion of his Biology examination, despite reportedly achieving an A1 grade in his other ninth-grade subjects.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Babar Sattar heard the petition filed by student Abdul Moez Khan and directed the Controller of Examinations of the Peshawar Board to produce his Biology answer sheet before the court.
According to the student’s lawyer, Aminur Rehman Yousafzai, the student secured 23 out of 25 marks in Biology MCQs and practical examinations but was awarded zero marks in the theory paper.
The lawyer said the student had applied for rechecking and also requested access to his answer sheet. However, the board reportedly informed him that no rules had yet been formulated this year allowing students to view their examination papers.
The lawyer told the court that students at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), where his son studies, are shown their papers after checking so they can review them.
The court observed that similar practices are followed in other countries, where students can view their answer scripts after evaluation.
The petitioner’s counsel requested the court to summon the Biology paper so that the court could examine it directly.
The bench subsequently ordered the Peshawar Board’s Controller of Examinations to present Abdul Moez Khan’s Biology answer sheet at the next hearing.
The court will review the paper before deciding on the student’s plea.
