Abbottabad police recovered a 17-day-old newborn baby within hours after he was allegedly kidnapped from the Women and Children Hospital, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The swift recovery operation led to the safe return of the infant to his parents, while four suspects, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the case. The incident highlights concerns over security arrangements at healthcare facilities and the rapid response by law enforcement in kidnapping cases.
According to police, the baby was abducted from the hospital nursery after being admitted for treatment. The child’s father, Siraj son of Muhammad Anwar, a resident of Jhangi Syedan, lodged a complaint at Cantt Police Station, prompting the registration of a case under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the immediate launch of an investigation.
Police said the suspects were tracked using CCTV footage, hospital duty records, and technical evidence. Investigators found that the main accused allegedly took the newborn from the hospital, later moved to Ayub Medical Complex to change appearance, and then transferred the child to accomplices who transported him to a residence in the Kathwal area.
Swift raid leads to recovery
Acting on intelligence and surveillance inputs, police conducted a targeted raid in Gali Banian, Kathwal, where the newborn was safely recovered. Authorities also seized the vehicle allegedly used in the incident.
Four suspects identified as Ayesha Bibi, Fayyaz Ahmed, Hazala Bibi, and Wahab Ali were arrested during the operation. Police said further investigation is underway to determine the full network and motive behind the kidnapping.
Officials added that the baby was handed back to his parents after medical and legal formalities.
