ISLAMABAD, July 17, 2026: Zong has started deploying a 5G-ready indoor network system at Islamabad International Airport to improve mobile coverage and provide travellers with faster access to telecom services.
The company said it is the only telecom operator currently deploying an exclusive Indoor Building Solution at the airport. The project will provide high-speed indoor connectivity across passenger terminals and other key airport facilities.
Zong has also established a Customer Facilitation Desk where passengers can access SIM activation, data services and on-site customer support.
Network Upgrade to Improve Passenger Connectivity
The 5G-ready Indoor Building Solution is designed to strengthen network performance in enclosed and high-traffic areas where conventional mobile signals may face coverage limitations.
According to the company, the system will help ensure more consistent connectivity across airport terminals and prepare the facility for future digital services linked to smart aviation and 5G technology.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior representatives of Zong, the Pakistan Airports Authority and Huawei.
Zong Targets Future Smart Aviation Services
Zong Chief Technical Officer Mao Weiliang said reliable connectivity had become an important part of modern travel, digital services and economic activity.
He said the project would improve the current passenger experience while laying the groundwork for a broader 5G-enabled ecosystem at Islamabad International Airport.
Weiliang added that the initiative reflected cooperation between Zong and its technology partners in developing digital infrastructure in Pakistan.
Zong Executive Director Sales and Distribution Faheem Durrani said combining the customer desk with upgraded network infrastructure would make it easier for travellers to access telecom services and remain connected during their journeys.
Airport Management Welcomes Digital Upgrade
Islamabad International Airport Manager Aftab Gillani said passengers increasingly expect reliable digital services alongside modern airport facilities.
He said the deployment would support better connectivity, improve passenger convenience and help the airport respond to the changing requirements of modern aviation.
The initiative is part of Zong’s broader strategy to expand 5G-ready infrastructure across major transport and transit locations in Pakistan.
The company said it plans to combine improved connectivity with artificial intelligence-supported services and other digital products as part of its contribution to the Digital Pakistan agenda.
