WASHINGTON: A US military Apache helicopter crashed into the sea near the coast of Oman during a routine patrol mission, prompting an investigation into the cause of the incident, according to US officials.
The accident occurred in the Gulf of Oman amid ongoing regional tensions. The US military said the helicopter was conducting a routine operation when it went down in the water.
According to the United States Central Command, the two personnel on board were rescued in a recovery operation and safely recovered from the sea within approximately two hours.
Crew members reported safe
US officials said both crew members were in stable condition and received necessary medical attention following the rescue.
The helicopter, however, sank after the crash, officials added.
The military said the exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined.
Investigation underway
Authorities have launched an investigation to establish whether the crash was caused by a technical malfunction, weather conditions, or another factor.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump told reporters that both personnel involved in the accident were safe and not in critical condition.
The incident comes as US military operations continue across the Gulf of Oman and the wider Middle East, where security developments remain under close international scrutiny.
Officials said additional details will be released once the investigation is completed.
