In the Syrian region of Aleppo, armed rebels have defeated government security forces and taken control of the area.
According to international news agencies, despite aerial bombings by Russian and Syrian forces, the rebels continue to advance in Aleppo. Today, they seized President Bashar al-Assad’s residence, hoisted their flag, and shared images of the victory on social media.
Foreign media reported that six civilians were killed due to rebel shelling. The situation in Aleppo is becoming increasingly tense.
Global powers, including the United States, and Muslim countries have called for an immediate end to the conflict. The United Nations Security Council has also convened an emergency meeting.
Neighboring Muslim nations are actively working toward a ceasefire. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with his Turkish counterpart to discuss the crisis. Both leaders advised the warring parties to negotiate peace and implement a ceasefire in Aleppo.
It is worth noting that the prolonged conflict in Syria began in 2011, with rebels seizing control of large parts of the country. By 2020, the Syrian government, with the help of allied forces, claimed to have crushed the rebellion and regained control from ISIS and rebel factions.
However, in Aleppo, the last battleground, sporadic clashes between rebels and forces continued. After years of relative calm, the rebels have reorganized and successfully reclaimed control of Aleppo.
