ISLAMABAD (News Desk): Bad news has emerged for consumers, students and office workers, as stationery items are likely to become more expensive from July 1.

According to sources, the government has decided to increase the sales tax on stationery products from 10 percent to 18 percent under the Finance Bill 2026.

Sources said the proposed tax hike is expected to significantly raise the prices of notebooks, registers, pens, pencils, markers and other educational and office supplies, directly affecting students, parents and businesses.

According to sources, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also approved the proposal to increase the sales tax on stationery products from 10 percent to 18 percent. The measure is aimed at boosting tax revenues and helping the government meet its fiscal targets.

Sources further stated that the new tax rate is likely to take effect on July 1, 2026, which could lead to further increases in stationery prices across the country. However, a final announcement will be made after the Finance Bill receives formal approval.
