SHANGLA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation and the University of Shangla have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand access to higher education for deserving and financially disadvantaged students in the district.
Under the agreement, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation will provide scholarships covering 80% of tuition fees to eligible students of the University of Shangla. The scholarships will be awarded on merit to students who demonstrate strong academic performance but face financial difficulties that prevent them from meeting the cost of higher education.
The MoU was signed by University of Shangla Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sardar Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation Director Academics Muhammad Saqib in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.
Scholarships Aimed at Preventing Dropouts
The initiative is intended to provide financial support to talented students and help those at risk of leaving university because of economic hardship.
University officials said the scholarship programme would give deserving students an opportunity to continue their studies without the full burden of tuition costs.
The agreement will remain effective for four years and may be renewed through mutual written consent. Both institutions can also amend its terms through a mutually agreed written arrangement.
University of Shangla Welcomes Initiative
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sardar Khan, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, described the agreement as a significant development for capable and deserving students.
He said financial assistance could help talented students overcome economic barriers and reduce university dropout rates linked to financial hardship.
The scholarship application and selection procedure will be announced separately through the university’s scholarship office.
KP Education Foundation’s Role
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation was established in 1992 under an Act of the Provincial Assembly. It is a corporate body tasked with promoting and developing education in the private sector across the province.
The foundation’s administrative and managerial affairs are overseen by a Board of Directors chaired by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Education experts said the agreement could benefit students from Shangla and surrounding areas, where the cost and availability of higher education can present significant challenges. They said initiatives that provide financial assistance can help talented students continue university education despite economic constraints.
