Islamabad: Minister of State for Information Technology, Shiza Fatima Khawaja, has confirmed that the satellite internet company ‘Starlink’ has completed its registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
In an interview with Geo News, Shiza Fatima Khawaja stated that the company is now registered with the SECP, and the regulatory framework is under preparation.
Officials have mentioned that consultations with foreign experts are ongoing as they develop the regulatory framework for non-stationary and non-jurisdictional low Earth orbits.
The officials also noted that these satellites could potentially disrupt local frequencies, and therefore, a comprehensive policy is being developed to address all aspects of the issue.
It is important to note that yesterday, Elon Musk responded to the government’s decision to offer Starlink internet service in Pakistan. In response to a welcoming statement from a Pakistani social media user, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, said that they are waiting for the approval of the Pakistan government for Starlink services.
Last month, during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on IT and Telecom, Minister of State for Information Technology Shiza Fatima had mentioned that they were working to bring Elon Musk’s satellite company, Starlink, to Pakistan.
